費南德茲今年9月25日在邁阿密海灘(Miami Beach)發生船難，不幸喪生，得年24歲。
來自古巴的費南德茲在2011年選秀會被馬林魚選中，從此展開他的大聯盟生涯。2013年榮獲國家聯盟年度最佳新人(NL Rookie of the Year)，但在2014年因傷接受了俗稱「Tommy John手術」的「手肘尺骨附屬韌帶重建手術」，復原後於2015年7月重回球場。在本季，費南德茲繳出16勝8敗、防禦率2.86、並飆出253次三振的佳績，也第二度獲選參加全明星賽(All-Star)。但即將展開的璀璨棒球生涯，卻在9月25日的船難驟然劃下句點。
在美國聯盟方面，東山再起獎頒給了巴爾的摩金鶯的川波(Mark Trumbo)。川波本季擊出47支全壘打，稱霸大聯盟。他在2015年效力西雅圖水手時，只有13支全壘打。
